Bill Duggins - Background & Experience

Bill's extensive knowledge of accounting, economics, finance, retirement plans, real estate and elder care gives him a skill set that enables him to provide comprehensive and strategic investment advice to his clients.  His diverse experience was gained through a wide range of career paths and personal experiences.

At an early age, Bill developed his passion for macroeconomics and financial analysis.  A high school economics class piqued his interest in the economy and financial markets.  He was intrigued when a High School math teacher taught him the principles of technical analysis while showing him how to manually compute moving averages (before the advent of computers) and plot charts using graph paper.

Bill continued to pursue his interest in finance and graduated Cum Laude from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Economics.  While at UCLA, he was a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society in Economics as well as the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity.  While an undergraduate, he took accounting courses at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management.

Upon graduation he went to work for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company (presently KPMG LLP) in their downtown Los Angeles office.  He worked in both their Audit and Tax Departments.  This experience helped sharpen Bill’s awareness of tax issues.

In 1979 he left public accounting to join Grubb & Ellis Company where he worked as a commercial real estate broker specializing in Orange County industrial real estate.  His commercial real estate career spanned 13 years.  During this period he gained valuable insight into the real estate market and how to maximize opportunities during both boom and bust cycles.

In 1992 Bill entered the Securities Industry concentrating his efforts on managing investments for private clients and providing consulting services to corporate retirement plan sponsors.  Prior to founding Duggins Financial, he was a Vice President–Investments with Smith Barney and A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc.  In 2005, Bill chose to go independent.  At Duggins Financial he strives to provide objective investment advice and deliver boutique service to his clientele.

Bill was a caretaker to his mother, Helen Duggins, who passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.  As a result, he has first-hand knowledge of and sensitivity to the challenges and issues associated with elder care and long term care insurance.  His experience helps him assist clients who encounter similar issues.

Bill has lived in Orange County since 1979 and raised his 3 Daughters in Newport Beach. In his free time, he plays electric guitar, scuba dives, works out and plays golf.  Bill currently resides and works in Aliso Viejo (Orange County), California.
